HUNTINGTON ÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬” The Cabell County case for a man who was accused of secretly recording a foreign exchange student has been dismissed.
Darrel Lee Wells was indicted in July 2023 on two counts of employment or use of a minor to produce obscene matter and two counts of criminal invasion of privacy for incidents that were said to have occurred in February 2022, according to indictment records provided by the Cabell County circuit clerkÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™s office.
Although the local case was dismissed, Wells was federally indicted last month in the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia and charged with intentionally intercepting and endeavoring to intercept an oral communication ÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬” a charge caring a fine of up to $10,000 and/or a prison sentence of up to five years.
Wells was released on bond June 6. A pre-trial date has been set in Judge Robert C. ChambersÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™ courtroom at 3:30 p.m. July 28. A trial has been set for 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 12.
