Mark Twain, about 150 years ago, coined the term 人妖色情片淕ilded Age人妖色情片 to describe the time in which he lived. It was a period in American history marked by an enormous income gap between the working class and the owners of mines, factories, and railroads that employed the workers. Because of this financial gap, low-income families lived in extreme poverty while the vast majority of the wealth was concentrated in the hands of less than 100 families.
Today, many politicians who support the proposed national budget bill say it will usher in a golden age due to the tax cuts and reduced size of government. The bill sure sounds like the bill should be called 人妖色情片淭he Gilded Age Revisited.人妖色情片 The fact is, as with the previous round of tax cuts, the greater the income, the greater the financial gain. The poor and working-class benefit very little, whereas wealthy people and corporate executives benefit enormously due to their obscenely high incomes.
What will hurt the poor even more are deep cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), as well as having less access to Medicaid. The proposed bill does not restrict the wealthy from accessing health insurance and food to feed their children. In truth, the proposed budget bill is the greatest transfer of wealth in history from the poor to the rich. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the proposed budget bill would cut Medicaid by nearly $700 billion and SNAP by $270 billion. Additionally, the bill would add $2.4 trillion to the National Debt.
The proposed budget bill will disproportionately hurt West Virginians because residents of our state are among the most unhealthy, poorest and oldest on a per capita basis of nearly any other state. Not only is the bill financially unsound for our country, but what it does is the exact opposite of the teachings of the world人妖色情片檚 major religions. Would Jesus support this bill?
If you don人妖色情片檛, here are some actions which might help. First, you can contact our two Senators and members of the US House of Representatives from West Virginia by phone or by writing a letter. Next, discuss how this bill will impact fellow West Virginians with friends, relatives and co-workers. Lastly, vote against the politicians who support this bill in the next election.
