Four Tri-State Coal Cats, including Marshall UniversityÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™s Kenyon Collins, were selected to play on an Appalachian League all-star baseball squad against the Collegiate National Team.
Collins, a pitcher who starred at Cabell Midland High School, West Virginia University infielder Ryan Maggy, Ohio State outfielder Sal Mineo and Bethune-Cookman pitcher Carlos Jazmin are Coal Cats picked to play in the game at 6:35 p.m. Friday at North Carolina Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
The Appalachian League Select Team roster was chosen by league executives and team managers. The roster features nine pitchers, two catchers, six infielders, five outfielders and one two-way player. The Coal Cats and Bristol State Liners lead all Appy League teams with four selections. The Elizabethton River Riders and Greeneville Flyboys each have three.

Collins is 0-1 with a 3.60 earned run average. In four games, three of them starts, and 20 innings, Collins has struck out 28, walked six and yielded 15 hits. Opponents are batting .203 against him.
Jazmin is 0-0 with a 0.90 ERA. In seven games and 10 innings, all in relief, he has allowed four hits, fanned 13 and walked four.
Mineo leads Tri-State with a .386 batting average. He has driven in four runs, doubled seven times, tripled twice and posted a .485 on-base percentage while slugging .579. Mineo has stolen 10 bases in 12 attempts. His 1.064 OPS is seventh in the league.
Maggy is second on the Coal Cats in hitting, batting .321. He has two home runs and a team-leading 14 runs batted in. Maggy has smacked six doubles and stolen two bases in as many attempts. He is slugging .536 and reaching base at a .465 clip.
MLB PipelineÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™s No. 89 Draft prospect Josh Owens of Elizabethton is among the players named to the Select Team. Two-time player of the week Ezra McNaughton will represent Greeneville. The BYU outfielder leads the league with seven home runs and an .803 slugging percentage. Appy League saves leader and Baylor recruit Charlie Atkinson will represent Bristol.
The 23 players representing the Select Team come from 23 schools. Twenty of the 23 selections are from or are committed to Division I schools. Eleven players are from or committed to Power Four schools, with a game-high five players representing the Big 12 Conference.
Danville manager Mickey Tettleton will lead the Appy League Select Team. Tettleton will be joined by Greeneville manager Jack Wilson as third-base coach, Bluefield manager Drew Dosch as first-base coach and Burlington pitching coach Dave Schmidt.
