Texas State and Louisiana-Monroe played the last two games of their SBC series to finalize the standings on Saturday. Following MarshallÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™s tripleheader sweep of non-qualifier Georgia State on Friday, a split in those final games would have guaranteed a No. 1 seed for the Herd.
Instead, Texas State pulled off a road sweep and secured the top spot. The Warhawks, meanwhile, entered the day tied for first and ended up losing a four-seed tiebreaker with Louisiana, having lost the regular season series to the RaginÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™ Cajuns.
Marshall defeated Texas State in their regular-season series. In terms of potential quarterfinal opponents, Coastal Carolina pulled off a series win against Marshall in mid-April ÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬” winning 2-0 and 5-3 while Marshall took a game 6-4.
The Herd also lost a series to Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina, losing 9-1 and 12-8 while winning 12-10.
Marshall has won eight of its last 10 games, including seven of its last eight, and has hit 68 home runs this season. After a homer on Saturday, Rielly Lucas has tied with Bella GerlachÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™s 2024 total of 15 homers for eighth-most in a season in Herd history.
Marshall hit 75 homers in 2022. Aside from that season, this yearÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™s total is the most Marshall has hit since 2019, when it had 79 and Mya Stevenson set the Herd single-season record with 20.
