Marshall University womenÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™s basketball just graduated a star from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and hopes it added another.
NiÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™Kiah Chesterfield has joined the Thundering Herd from NCAA Division II Tusculum University, where she averaged 18.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. She made 51% of her shots ÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬” 36% from 2-point range and 76% from the free throw line.
The 6-foot rising junior center/forward is from the same hometown as recently graduated MU star Aislynn Hayes. Chesterfield was a second-team All-South Atlantic Conference selection last season. She was an all-freshman team pick the season before, when she averaged 12.4 points and 5.7 rebounds.
"Ni'Kiah has been a force in the paint with her scoring, rebounding and low post presence," Herd coach Juli Fulks said. "As she makes the move to Marshall, we're excited to see her continue growing as a dominant interior player and a leader on and off the court."
ChesterfieldÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™s best performance came against South Carolina-Aiken, when she made 14 of 15 shots and scored a career-high 34 points in a 95-78 victory.
Chesterfield said leaving Tusculum wasnÈËÑýÉ«Ç鯬™t easy, but she looks forward to the challenge of Division I basketball.
A 1,000-point scorer at Oakland High School, Chesterfield averaged 12.9 points and 5.6 rebounds a game as a senior. Her prowess earned Chesterfield several college offers, including from Division I schools, among them Chattanooga.
As a child, Chesterfield gave up cheerleading to play youth league football.
Chesterfield is the first announced recruit of the current signing period. Marshall lost C.C. Mays, Jayda Allie, Aislynn Hays and Olivia Ziolkowski to the transfer portal after going 15-20 last season.
